I am writing as an ex-yahoo user. I still use the e-mail, but because it would be a pain to transfer some of the e-mails I get there to another account. I still have the Yahoo! business account, but because I am too lazy to cancel it and transfer files from there to another server.
Yahoo! was good at some point back in the early 2000’s. I made my life there, used the clubs (later groups) to share my music likes with others, made a lot of friends there who I still hang out with nowadays, even used their messenger before msn developed in a better way… but nowadays Yahoo! is not that appealing to use.
They cancelled geocities and transferred everything to Yahoo! Business (we had a lot of sites hosted there, nowadays those are all hosted in the Business account), the groups died out becoming useless and a place for spam only (I deleted mine a couple of years ago, saving all the content I could), and nobody seems to like it as we have better place to fan-girl or post.
I don’t want Tumblr to ever become something that’s not Tumblr and it’s not owned by Tumblr…
I like Tumblr because it isn’t My Space, it’s not Blogger (I do like Blogger, only doesn’t post that much in there now), it’s not any other social network you can think about. I still go to places like Live Journal or Wordpress sites (or Blogspot sites), but Tumblr is my main choice for everything now, I abandoned anything else. If it never became part of any giant media network, it would surely be spoiled. And I’ve got too much experience on how Yahoo! transforms anything they buy… so…
